Fresh Hiking News For You March 15, 2024 |
March 2024: A Note From Diane March, a month of transitions regardless of which hemisphere you hike in.Trees, flowers, birds, trail conditions - everything is changing. Let's get right into the news so you can get back on the trail and enjoy this fickle season!
HIKING FOR HER MONTHLY TIPDo you carry the same gear year round, year in and year out? Please reconsider this habit. As trail conditions change in response to seasonal changes, your gear list must change. Here is a resource for you: Hiking For Her's spring hiking gear list
HIKING FOR HER GIVEAWAYThis month’s giveaway is a Therm-a-Rest Z-Seat Pad to go along with my spring gear list.I consider this a hiker's comfort item that can also be used for safety because it is two sided. The silver reflective side traps body heat, the yellow side can be used to advertise your location in an emergency situation. Both sides will protect you when you’re sitting on cold, hard surfaces. It’s great to get more than one use out of an item, isn’t it? It's the hiker's holy grail, in fact. And at 2 ounces and about two thirds the size of your Nalgene water bottle, you will not notice this addition in your backpack. Sign up for a chance to win before March 16th!

If you’re considering a Garmin for navigation, be sure to consider this new option for unlimited battery life in sunny conditions. Not every hiker needs one of these expensive devices. But if you wander off trail, like long hard hikes and trips, enjoy solo hiking, or sometimes forget to leave your itinerary with someone you trust, start thinking about investing in a hand held device that uses GPS and GLONASS satellite systems. Here are my thoughts on this technology:

A requestI’ve been having quite a few bounced newsletter signups lately. It’s mostly because the email address has been misspelled.Example: "gmil" rather than "gmail" This is frustrating for me because you’ve asked me to send you something but I cannot reach you. And I can’t correct the spelling error without your permission. So please consider this a friendly reminder to double check your address whenever you sign up for newsletters and then don't receive them. It relieves a lot of anxiety for the sender :)
