Hi. I've worn skirts to hike in warm, wet and winter weather. I made my own waterproof overskirt and use either a cotton or wool base skirt depending on weather. I find knee length best and use legwarmers or base layer leggings to keep warm when needed.
Easy to see
Doesn't chafe inner leg
Cool yet longer lengths can keep you warm
The struggle is to find the right kind of skirt and I would like one made from either lightweight or heavier duty fabric used in shorts or trousers so could dispense with overskirt for all but very bad weather conditions. Currently cannibalizing a pair of shorts I've never worn.
Hope that helped.
