My first solo hike I was actually sort of afraid. That was about 17 years ago. Now Its the only way to travel. I stop, sit by streams, eat when I am hungry. Take lots of pictures. I can travel as fast or as slow as I want. On the rare occasion when I hike with someone else I always feel stressed. I carry a GPS, a Spot satellite communicator, and a large can of bear spray. I feel at peace with the world when I am out in the wilderness alone. Hiking alone may not be for every one, it is my passion. Writing this makes me want to put my boots on and take off.
